Alan Dale Walker was convicted in August 1991 of capital murder, rape, and kidnapping of Konya Rebecca Edwards in Harrison County. His conviction and death sentence were upheld by the Mississippi Supreme Court in Walker v. State, 671 So.2d 581 (1995), with the U.S. Supreme Court denying certiorari in 1996. On March 17, 1997, Walker filed a Petition for Post Conviction Collateral Relief along with a Motion for Appointment of Counsel for this relief. His petition raised multiple claims of violations of state and federal rights. The Mississippi Supreme Court, referencing its decision in Henry Curtis Jackson, Jr. v. State, granted Walker's motion for appointment of counsel, finding it well-founded. The case was remanded to the Harrison County Circuit Court for the appointment of counsel, who will have thirty days from their appointment to submit any additional requests for post-conviction relief. The ruling was made en banc, with all justices concurring.
