On December 15, 1997, the Supreme Court reversed the judgment of the panel concerning the exclusion of the plaintiff's expert testimony and the grant of summary judgment by the district court in General Electric Co. v. Joiner. The Court indicated that there are still genuine issues of material fact that prevent the granting of summary judgment. Specifically, it highlighted unresolved questions regarding Joiner's exposure to furans and dioxins, as well as the admissibility of expert opinions contingent upon such exposure. The Supreme Court reversed the Court of Appeals' judgment and remanded the case for further proceedings in line with its opinion.
