The Fourteenth Court of Appeals reinstated the appeal in the case of Lam Nguyen and Van Hong Do v. Aventus Insurance Company, originally abated on July 22, 2021, due to a reported settlement between the parties that rendered the appeal moot. The court had informed the parties that the appeal would be reinstated by August 23, 2021, unless a motion to dismiss or other dispositive motion was filed. No such motion was submitted. Additionally, on July 7, 2021, the court had indicated that it would consider dismissing Dick Law Firm from the case for lack of jurisdiction unless a response was filed by July 17, 2021, showing valid reasons for the firm’s continued involvement. The reinstatement order extends the deadline for Dick Law Firm to respond to the notice of dismissal by ten days from the date of this order. The panel for this decision included Justices Wise, Bourliot, and Visiting Justice Massengale.
