Hazel, Kevin, and Richard Savoie (the Savoies) challenged a trial court's decision to supplement the trial record at the request of Shell Oil Company and SWEPI LP (collectively "Shell"). This supplementation included evidence of a settlement agreement between the Savoies and another defendant, Pioneer Exploration, LLC, related to remediation claims on the Savoies' property. The settlement, reached in August 2013, occurred after a final judgment in May 2013 concerning an oilfield legacy lawsuit.

During a hearing on Shell's motion for a new trial, a redacted version of the settlement agreement and related correspondence with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources were introduced into evidence. After denying Shell's motion, the trial court granted Shell's request to include this evidence in the appellate record.

The Savoies filed a writ application contesting the trial court's supplementation ruling. However, the court found the reasons from a related case (Hazel Richard Savoie, et al. v. Alice T. Richard, et al.) rendered the writ moot, resulting in a denial of the Savoies' application. All costs associated with the writ are assigned to the plaintiffs. WRIT DENIED.
