The Court of Appeals for the Ninth District of Texas at Beaumont addressed the appeal of Reidie James Jackson against Mark W. Stiles Unit and others. The court identified that the notice of appeal was not filed within the required timeframe. The trial court's judgment was signed on January 6, 2012, and the notice of appeal should have been filed by February 6, 2012. Jackson filed the notice on October 17, 2012, which was more than thirty days post-judgment and outside the permissible period for extending the time to perfect an appeal under Texas Rule of Appellate Procedure 26.1 and 26.3. Consequently, the court dismissed the appeal due to the untimely filing. The opinion was delivered by Justice Charles Kreger on November 15, 2012, with Justices Gaultney and Horton also participating.
