The Fourth Court of Appeals in San Antonio, Texas, addressed an appellate case involving Vicente Saldana against the State of Texas. The court noted that the record for the appeal, originally due on March 17, 2015, had not been filed. A letter dated March 23, 2015, was sent to court reporter Steve Turner, requiring the record to be submitted by April 22, 2015, unless there were issues regarding the payment of fees for record preparation. Turner did not respond to this letter. Subsequently, on April 30, 2015, the court ordered Turner to file the record by May 15, 2015. Turner failed to comply or respond to this order as well. As a result, the court mandated that Turner appear in person on June 25, 2015, to explain why he should not face criminal and civil contempt charges for not filing the reporter’s record by the specified deadline. Turner was informed of his right to legal representation at the hearing, with provisions for court-appointed counsel if he could not afford one, provided he notified the court by June 9, 2015. Additionally, the order reiterated Turner’s obligation to prepare and file the record immediately and mandated personal service of the order on him. The order was issued by Justice Luz Elena D. Chapa and recorded by Clerk of Court Keith E. Hottle on May 28, 2015.
